How to check a licence

  1. Ask for the licence number. Licensed boarders should show it or give it on request.
  2. Look it up on KennelCheck. Search by postcode or town, and check the number, rating and expiry date match.
  3. Check the council register. Each listing links to its source register. Councils must keep a public register of licences.
  4. Check the dates. A licence past its expiry date may have been renewed, or may have lapsed, so ask the council if unsure.
  5. Visit first. A good boarder will happily show you where your dog or cat will sleep and exercise.

Can't find a boarder anywhere? Contact the council's licensing team. Unlicensed boarding is an offence.
